With respect to Socrates, my unexamined life is not worth living. The front room is the face we show everyone but we hide our true self in the back room.
I have little to add to the accompanying musical clip on Valerie June. Me and my bride were fortunate enough to see her live. What her wonderful studio recording does not capture is the living breathing soul casting its spell on an audience. Her studio recording gives you the muddy Southern bluegrass reminiscent of current bands Alabama Shakes, My Morning Jacket, Ray LaMontagne, and The Black Keys but her stage presence shows a more mercurial, and assured compositional arrangement. From carefully separated drums and horn, her voice and own instrumental prowess notwithstanding, each song becomes an experience.
