With respect to Socrates, my unexamined life is not worth living. The front room is the face we show everyone but we hide our true self in the back room.
If you want to see the actress in the nude, you will have to look at the outtakes.
Okay, sure, parts of a film that for whatever reason did not make it into the final edited film. Maybe it was a continuity error, or someone broke character or the scene just didn’t fit. However, this sentence implies a request has been made to see a particular actress naked, appealing to the male teenaged idiom-seeker in all of us. Not sure if Makkai has a full grasp on his reading audience.

Jim took advantage of Tracy’s innocence, got her drunk, and raped her.
Well! Heavens to Betsy! I did not see that coming. I had turned to my bride and slowly said the words. I was immediately heartbroken for Tracy, imagining the scene and how it got out of control too soon. Like poor Jodie Foster on the pinball machine in The Accused. The sentence is just as exploitative as the mentioned film (which no doubt has outtakes of a nude Foster). I scanned the rest of Makkai’s informative book looking for any mention of Jim’s castration or comeuppance. No such luck.
John did a double take when he saw Bill in girls’ clothes.
Now here the tables are turned, as a double take usually involves a pretty girl that just may stop your clock. Instead Bill is the pretty girl, harboring the very modern Caitlyn’s secret. Except it isn’t women’s clothes. It’s girls’ clothes. How old is Bill anyway? Too many creepy options storm my brain. After all, if Makkai is okay with forcible rape as an example, who knows what Bill is up to?
